New Partnership – Ruth

This month, we’re excited to introduce you to one of our incredible SLT partners — Ruth, founder of Let’s Expand Communication Ltd.

At Pippin, our aim is to support as many families as possible. And one of the ways we do this is by partnering with experienced Speech and Language Therapists and professionals working in the Early Years Sector.

We had a quick chat with Ruth, who is currently on the board of the Royal College of Speech & Language Therapists, to learn more about her work — and why she’s so keen to recommend Pippin to the families she supports.

Business name: Let’s Expand Communication Ltd.

How long have you been an SLT?: I’ve been an SLT for 20 years this summer! I started out with the HSE in the South of Ireland before moving to NHSCT, where I specialised in complex needs. In 2016, I began lecturing at Ulster University and launched my independent practice. Since then, I’ve chaired ASLTIP, joined the RCSLT Board of Trustees, and grown my team to 16 — we now support families, schools and nurseries across the whole of Northern Ireland.

What’s your main interest in SLT?: I love early intervention with the preschoolers. Especially working with families of children with Down Syndrome or those presenting as Gestalt Language Processors

What do you love about being an SLT?: I love the variety! Getting to provide therapy with families but also sharing my skills through training others. I love being involved in strategic planning both for my business, but also within the RCSLT Board. I also love being able to be innovative in my working week, to do things I enjoy, like my podcast “diary of an SLT” which has been so successful over the last 10 months.

What do you think about Pippin?   I think Pippin is great. Giving parents those tools to support their children at home is a fantastic starting place for families who are awaiting face to face input from other services. As it also has a tracking tool for parents they can see the progress being made by their little ones which otherwise might be missed in the busy nature of family life.
